Devon Singh is more than just a senior at Pace; he is an entrepreneur outside of school. He started his very own clothing brand, Vescently. His clothing brand is the embodiment of streetwear.
This interview has been edited and condensed.
Can you describe what you do outside of school?
Outside of school, I work on my brand called Vescently. It’s something I started to express creativity through design and style. I come up with ideas, make visuals, and try to grow it little by little. It’s a fun way for me to build something that feels personal and original.
What made you want to start a clothing brand?
I started kind of randomly one day when I was bored and had that entrepreneurship night last year. I’ve always loved drawing and messing around on the computer making random designs, but I felt like I was stuck and wanted a new way to express myself. So I just started designing things and putting ideas together, and it slowly turned into Vescently.

How long have you been doing this?
I have been doing this since I was in middle school for as long as I can remember. I never took action or made something more of it until last year.
Were there times when it was stressful/overwhelming? If it has, what have you done to overcome that?
There have been times when I have been stressed about production and manufacturing, as I handmake the majority of my products as of right now. To overcome that stressful environment, I take a step back instead of pushing forward, analyze the situation, create a solution or plan, and address any concerns that arise.
Do you work with people? If so, how is your experience with them?
I work solo usually, but there are times when I collaborate with friends or other creators as well. Most of the time it’s a very pleasant connection I’m grateful to have.
What is it like balancing school and this business of yours?
Balancing school and Vescently together is not as difficult as it may seem. At the end of the day I am my own boss, and I choose when everything is due. Although it may upset some clients and customers, I have to prioritize myself first before anything else.
