“The Rim of the World” is a movie I recommend for people who like sci-fi or adventure.
Released in 2019 on Netflix, this movie stars four kids: Gabriel, who is played by Alessio Scalzotto; Alex, who is played by Jack Gore; Zhen, who is played by Miya Cech; and Dariush, who is played by Benjamin Flores. This movie was directed by Joseph McGinty.
In “The Rim of the World” there is a mix of romance and conflict between the kids. These kids must overcome their differences and personal issues to fight off an alien invasion.
There was a lot of conflict between Dariush and Gabriel, which got really bad and made it hard for the four of the kids to work as a team. However, they eventually put their differences aside and focused on the common enemy.
Alex and Zhen started off as strangers, but they built a romantic relationship. Both Alex and Zhen had something in common, which was their trauma. Their relationship furthered in the movie.
The movie has insane visual effects when it comes to fighting the aliens or running away from monsters. All four of the kids are amazing at acting, especially when it comes down to them being in fear for their lives.
This movie was strong when it came to the movement of the aliens. The way they walked and how they killed civilians was really cool. They played their roles perfectly, also giving an ‘80s vibe during one scene. The sound effects for this movie were really good. They made sure to capture everything from the aliens in the sky with fighter ships.
I connected to this movie because it shows the true meaning of strong teamwork, even with some differences among people. This movie gave a message that just because you have different views or opinions, you can be a good team.
I personally feel that the inappropriate language wasn’t a good move in this movie, because it drifted the kids’ teamwork onto their vile language. If the filmmakers removed the inappropriate language, this movie would have been better.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, especially the adventure storyline. My favorite part was the scene at summer camp when the kids realized they were being invaded by aliens. The movie did a great job depicting the monsters; I appreciated how the alien monsters looked menacing and frightening, which made me more engaged and invested in the story.
