As prom season approaches at Pace High School, many seniors are sharing mixed opinions about this year’s event. Senior prom will be held on June 3rd at Giando on the water in Brooklyn. The theme will be a masquerade ball.
Ms. Gold explained that although this is her first year planning prom at Pace High School, she has experience planning about five proms at her previous school. She said the senior committee chose this year’s masquerade theme after voting on different ideas because they wanted something fun and creative without being too over-the-top.
She also emphasized that students should wear whatever makes them feel comfortable and confident, whether or not it matches the theme.
Another major topic surrounding prom is the cost. Tickets will be $150, Zoe Manzo shared that she feels the prices are too high, especially for students from low-income families. However, she believes many students will still try to attend and enjoy the experience.
Manzo said, “While the masquerade theme is not really my style, I understand why others may like it.”

When asked about her prom plans, Zoe said she does not plan on bringing a date unless someone asks her. Instead, she is looking forward to spending time with her friends and making memories. She also said she does not yet have any after-prom plans.
Ms. Gold also addressed students who may not want to attend prom. She explained that prom is a personal choice, but she hopes students see it as an opportunity to celebrate the end of high school with friends before graduation.
She described the venue on the East River overlooking the Manhattan skyline as a beautiful place for seniors to enjoy one final celebration together.
Overall, this year’s prom has created a lot of discussion among students and staff, especially about the prices, the masquerade theme, and the importance of celebrating senior year together.
