Pace High School has established its first AP Art 2D and Design class, showing off students’ passion and skill to aim for art colleges. The AP art class is a new course that was started and is being taught by Mr. Zoboi.
The course is something that Mr. Zoboi has always wanted to do, but concerns about class size and practicality have held him back.
The class helps kids get into their college of choice and helps expand their artistic skills. Students need to assemble a portfolio of 20 pieces of their artwork ahead of the Ap exam.

Students Marangelie Gil and Jerral Gil have enjoyed the course by expressing themselves in various ways, whether through spontaneous creations or using the environment as inspiration or subjects for their artwork.
Jerral Leandra Gil Montano is one of the students taking this class. Gil Montano, senior, said, “At first I was very hesitant; I thought I didn’t have the skills to be in here. I didn’t think I was fit to share this class with these extraordinary people, but Mr. Zoboi said I was made to be here.”

Some students have a strong passion for art, while others are in the class to exercise their art skills. This class’s inaugural year has had a significant impact on students who hungered for more advanced art instruction.
Jerral Leandra Gil Montano said, “It’s a never-ending process. When I start a piece of art, I come in with a set train of thought, like, ‘I’m going to use these colors and outline this.’”
Maragline Gil, a senior, said, “I developed a passion for it mostly because I feel relief when I paint and I’m stress-free.”
Mr. Zoboi is proud of the class and believes that there will now be more opportunities for students to showcase their work. This will lay a foundation for future art students at Pace High School.
