This interview has been edited and condensed.
What’s your job at Pace? Can you describe what you do?
I am the school crossing guard. I am in charge of making sure kids cross safely.
What’s important about your role or job?
I make sure the kids get home safe and get to school safe. The kids are the most important part.
What’s your favorite or least favorite thing about working at Pace?
My least favorite thing is the cars that don’t listen. There are also kids that don’t listen. But there’s nothing I don’t like about this job, except when kids cross recklessly.
How did you get your job?
I was just a stay-at-home mom and I wanted to get a job that goes with my kids’ schedules. So this was the perfect job for me. And I applied for the job with the NYPD. I went to [the Police] Academy and training.
What’s your schedule like and do you like it?
So my schedule is 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. I have lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. I come back and work from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and I love it because it’s a job. I love being around people outside, so I get to interact with everyone in the community and help the community.
