What’s your job? and describe what you do.
I’m a barista in training. I started working at Starbucks in September. I work on weekends as a cashier at the register. I greet customers and take their orders. I am only able to make tea or coffee for customers and not any other drinks.
What’s the least favorite thing about your job?
Angry customers are my least favorite. The Starbucks I work at is located on 53rd Street and 6th Avenue, an area full of tourists. Tourists have accents, and sometimes it’s hard to understand them. When I ask them to repeat themselves, they get mad at me, and I’m just trying to get their order right.
How did you get your job in the first place?
During summer all I did was job hunting. I applied to hundreds of job applications. I went in-person and kept asking. And then I got lucky because someone recommended me to this specific Starbucks. The same person worked there and is helping me.
How many hours do you work, and do you work school nights or weekends?
I work on weekends for about eight hours each day. So in total I work 16 hours a week.
