Ms. Watkins, teacher of AP English & Composition, theater, and 10th grade English, placed fourth in the America’s Favorite Teacher Competition.
“I’m really proud of how far I got and for the support of the students, my colleagues, friends and family,” Ms. Watkins said. “What an experience!”
Watkins was nominated for America’s Favorite Teacher Nominee by her former students for her courageous talents, skills and character traits. Students at Pace High School flooded into her Instagram bio, navigating the link to vote for her.
“The first students I ever taught got together and decided to nominate me,” Ms. Watkins said. “I taught them seven years ago and they still think I’m the best, so that means so very much to me.”
Every year, America’s Favorite Teacher hosts their Favorite Teacher Competition based on their skills, talent, and their loving support from their students, friends and family. The prize winner will receive $25,000, a trip to Hawaii, an appearance in Reader’s Digest, and a virtual Bill Nye school assembly.
During her time & progress as an America’s Favorite Teacher Nominee, freshman Ryan Sanchez had been endlessly advertising on social media platforms, and sharing website links to people for the nomination website to vote for Ms.Watkins.

“This whole process is actually a little stressful for me,” Ms. Watkins said. “I’m not the type of person who enjoys spotlighting myself, so it’s been a little difficult to tell everyone I’ve even been nominated and ask for votes, you know? But jeez, I wanted to win so badly for my kiddos.”
