During Thanksgiving, many are fortunate to celebrate with their family and loved ones. Yet, many unfortunately aren’t able to spend time with their loved ones.
Mr. Hudson, the assistant coach for basketball, takes students from Pace to do community service at Middle School 275 on Rockaway Ave Brownsville, Brooklyn. They distribute food, donate clothes, and come out with different perspectives on life.
When asked “What did you participate in during community service?”
Junior Madjou Bah says, “We went to a school to help set up clothes, leftover clothes that some people don’t use anymore, going into the cafeteria to help out setting up food ,decorations, gifts, and a raffle giveaway.”
It wasn’t just Madjou Bah assisting but others like Romario Medwinter and Kaitlyn Pellot. They helped create an atmosphere where many had a good time. They were able to develop deeper relationships with not only their peers but also the community.
Kaitlyn Pellot says “Everybody was nice. The community was nice and everything. Everybody was just helping each other out and being supportive of each other and the people around.”
Community service was not only a success in their eyes but also gave them a different outlook on life.
When asked how did community service change their perspective?
Romario Midwinter says “It changed my mindset in a way. To always be kind and generous”.
Madjou says “It changed my perspective on what other people go through in life. Always be grateful for what you have because other people are in doubt and don’t have a lot. People are either losing their houses or aren’t financially stable. So just be grateful for everything you got in your life.”
Their perspectives have been changed and that’s what Mr. Hudson had hoped for. He wanted his students to value their lives. He is proud of the work the students did.
Lenny Hudson says “ The environment was actually a very giving environment. A lot of the people there showed a lot of energy. There was no animosity and no hostility.”
Community service is a huge part in Lenny Hudson’s life and he wants many to have an understanding of the benefits it can have in your perspective.
