The math department has been reporting that calculators have been stolen from their class by unknown students.
Ms. Carillo, math co-teacher, said, “It started the last school year when many calculators started being stolen from Mr. Greenblatt and Ms. Trezza.”
Ms. Carillo, while working with Ms. O’Sullivan in statistics classes, noticed calculators going missing little by little at the beginning of the year. Throughout time, more and more calculators were stolen from the classrooms. Towards late November, approximately 14 calculators were stolen in one day leaving Ms. O’Sullivan and Ms. Carillo’s classroom with no calculators.
Students have been having a hard time calculating math problems without the calculators.
Aiyman Tayba, 12th grade statistics student, said, “I definitely think it’s a messed up thing, because we are unable to easily solve complex equations in our calculators.”
Mr. Greenblat, the geometry 1 and 2 teacher, had to lock up his calculators since students had been stealing them. However other math teachers like, Ms. Carillo, Ms. O’Sullivan and Ms. Trezza had their calculators all stolen.
Ms. Carillo thinks one solution may be to assign calculators to students just how students are assigned laptops.
