The holiday season in New York City is an atmosphere beyond comparison. This is likely due to the fact there are a plethora of exciting festivities to enjoy around the city this time of year. With winter break around the corner, these spots are sure to fill you and your plus-one with Christmas cheer.
Prospect Park Skating Rink (LeFrak Center at Lakeside)
The LeFrak Center at Lakeside, located in Prospect Park, offers a range of seasonal activities year-round. The skating rink is open from now until the end of winter for ice and figure skating. Admission varies between $10.60 on weekdays and $15.25 on weekends, with an additional $10.35 for an ice skate rental (bringing your own is permitted). If it’s your first time, skate school is also offered; however, you must book a spot in advance. If you’re in the mood for some grub afterward, the Bluestone Café has plenty of options for food and beverages, including hot chocolate.
Union Square Holiday Market
In need of a unique gift for a special someone? The Union Square Holiday Market has just returned and may have just what you’re looking for. Over 150 vendors are present daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and extending to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. You can expect to find sweet treats, memorable keepsakes, and other authentic imports. The best part is that many goods are affordable, which makes it a great spot for students to purchase presents in a pinch.
Wall Street Christmas Tree
Everyone knows the tree at Rockefeller Center, but there are many trees that don’t get as much spotlight: case in point, the Christmas tree in front of the New York Stock Exchange. It is nowhere as crowded as the area near the tree at Rockefeller, which makes it a hidden gem around the holiday season. Along the way, be sure to stop by the Freedom Tower and the shops at the Oculus.
Bryant Park Winter Village
Similar to the Union Square Holiday Market, the Bryant Park Winter Village is all that and then some. The main point of interest is the free skating rink that is open to the public, however, skates require a rental fee. Additionally, there are holiday shops filled with delicious bites, artisan goods, and more special items that cannot be found anywhere else. Additionally, you can rent your own private igloo to hang out with your friends and family for 90 minutes. If you aren’t able to make it during the Christmas season, don’t worry, as the Winter Village is open until March.
