Pace High School is excited to welcome a new face to its teaching staff this year: Mr. Pak. He shares his background so students can get to know him better.
This interview has been edited and condensed.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a math teacher. I like anime, I like video games.
Can you tell us about your educational background or any experience you have teaching?
This is my third year of teaching. I studied for six years, [spent] four years as an artist and two years as a teacher. This is my second school. I used to work at Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem.
What is your job at Pace?
Specifically Math and Special Education.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I would say, when I was in college I tutored to survive and I was like “wow this actually really fun,” so that tutoring actually inspired me to try and pursue teaching.
What are you most excited to see or experience at Pace?
I like seeing the students grow, I like growing myself along with the students, so seeing how they progress.
Is there anything else you want students to know about you?
I’m always here when they need something.
Where can students find you?
They can find me at 448B the Geometry Room.
