Tyra Rose is a senior and she runs the newly added Poetry Club with Ms. Mornhinweg, Mr. Rohlfing and Ms. Allen.
This interview was edited and condensed.
Can you tell me what you do in this club and why do you enjoy it?
[In] the poetry club, we discuss poetry. It’s a space where you can be creative and just write honestly, even if you don’t want to promote it. We are also thinking about incorporating the club into other school activities such as Pacegiving, the Black History Month showcase and the Pace Cafe.
Who runs this club and why do you find the club interesting?
I run the club. I’m having help from Mr. Rohlfing and Ms. Mornhinweg. I think it’s interesting because, me personally, I like to write, and I know writing can be used as a method to release yourself, your ambitions and how you feel. I find that the club is interesting because a group of people could come together, sit and write.
What days do you guys meet? What time does it start and end?
We meet every Wednesday around 2:45 p.m right after school. We end at 4:00 p.m.
Are you devoted to your club? Do you think that it’s a good club that you’ll stick around for?
Yeah, I am actually very committed to this club. I had to drop something else to do this club, so I would consider myself devoted. The most devoted. It’s not like I’m being forced to do it. It’s something that I actually like and find interest in.
