Maimouna Sissoko is a hard working senior who is one of the few people who has a job while going to school. While applying for colleges she also works at a college. This is an insight on how she feels about her double work life.

What’s your job? Can you describe what you do?
I work at Fordham University as a food service worker, I work in a place called rolls and bowls and a cashier/smoothie maker.
What’s the most interesting thing about your job?
The most interesting part about my job is most definitely my customers. I love to learn about where they are coming from in regard to whether they live in New York or coming from a different state.
What’s the least favorite thing about your job?
At the moment I don’t have anything least favorite about my job but Ihate turning away customers when it’s almost closing time, especially those who were waiting in line for a while.
How did you get your job?
I got my job through my older sister. My older sister started working at Fordham University in the community dining hall. She realized that I really wanted a job and when they were hiring she made sure I knew so I could apply.
How many hours do you work? Do you work school nights or weekends?
I work Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m.to 9:30p.m.. My days off are Saturday and Sunday.
Does your job affect your grades?
No, my job does not affect my grades. School will always come first to me so if I believe my grades are slipping,I will do anything in my power to bring it up.
Do you think your job is beneficial to your mental health?
Yes, I believe my job is beneficial to my mental health. It has helped me massively. I enjoy my job dearly and look forward to going because there’s nothing but laughter when I get there.
Do you see yourself in this job in the future?
I honestly don’t know if I see myself working this job in the far future because I know my dream job is waiting for me out there and working at Fordham University as a food service worker, although it’s great, is not my dream job.
Besides money, what have you gained from having this job?
Beside money, things I have gained from this job is work experience and how to deal with all types of people, whether it’s rude people, nice people, people with disabilities, children, or even someone who’s simply had a rough day and just needs someone to talk to.
Do you think you gained more independence after getting a job?
I believe I have gained even more independence after getting this job because not only do I in a way have more responsibilities but I now know how to budget my money and the importance of it.
