Amy Rojas is a senior who manages the flag football team with genuine passion. She supports her players and fellow school community wholeheartedly, making an impact on and off the field.
This interview has been edited and condensed.
What has been your history with football?
I used to play football in middle school until I had a concussion. I was really [good] in fourth or fifth grade. I had a concussion, and I lost my memory. After that, you know, it wasn’t good.
How did you come to be the flag football manager?
First of all, I did it because I wanted to boost up my resume. Second, I had a friend. He graduated already, but his name is Chance, and he basically [introduced] me to Mr. Hylton, the flag football coach. And I also just enjoy doing it.
How do you manage being the football manager? As well as being a senior, going to high school, what are the challenges that come with that?
The challenge is that you come home late and you get behind in school [and] homework because you’re tired and you still have needs at home.
How do you balance these things?
I balance it because I have a schedule for myself, like some days [I’ll] just rest or some days I’ll actually just lock in and do my work.
Does being a senior who manages a club help you socialize with people in different grades? What have been your favorite experiences so far?
Yes, because now I have a lot of friends in different grades. And then the best thing about it is when you’re in the hallways and people are, like, “Amy’s my favorite manager. Amy, my favorite manager,” you know? That’s cool.
What impression do you want to leave with your players that you manage?
‘Amy’s really hard working’ because I put them before everything else.
Amy is more than just a flag football manager. She’s a leader who manages her responsibilities on and off the field with grit and determination. Whether it’s staying on top of her school work or building friendship across many grade levels, Amy’s passion and love for her community truly shines through.
